Living Well With Diabetes
I have been type 1 diabetic since age 15, for
nearly 35 years. I have tried to take care of my health and my diabetes all these years, but in the
last few years I have had more demands on my time and my health has taken a place on the back
burner.
Around thanksgiving, the Lord brought us Bruno. He is a smooth coat Saint Bernard rescue dog from the pound, and when my husband wanted to get him, I thought, "Another mouth to feed, another job to do."
When I walked him for the first time, he walked
right beside me, and sat down when I stopped! So I started taking him for longer walks and
was delighted to find out that he doesn't even pay attention when other dogs bark at him, and
doesn't mind traffic or sirens or any other distractions!
We got him a backpack and he carries my blood testing and insulin pump supplies. Bruno and I walk around 10-15 miles a week, and both of us are getting stronger and healthier. I feel like God has given me Bruno to remind me to take care of my own health.
He surely is a help to me, and because he carries my supplies, I can go farther and longer than I could before. He surely is a motivation par excellence!
